Ages: 10-17 boys and girls Come join the Auburn Recreation District
and the Auburn Music Center in our Rock N’ Roll Summer Day
Camp! This is great camp for beginning guitar players, bass players
and drummers interested in performing classic rock songs in a band
setting. This is a rock band workshop that will allow students to
work together learning how to play blues and classic rock songs.
Previous experience is helpful but not necessary. Placements will
be held on the first two days of rehearsals. Minimum 15 students.

SOCCER - Ages 6 to 10
All the skills and thrills of soccer are taught through fast-paced
drills, skill-building exercises, and game-speed scrimmages that
give every young athlete a thorough and invigorating experience
of the world’s most popular sport! Coaches will focus on the
essential skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control
to enable young athletes to play with confidence and have fun. Every
soccer program ends with a World Cup, allowing athletes to showcase
their skills in a program-wide tournament. All participants receive
a soccer ball, t-shirt and merit award. The participant-to-coach
ratio is approximately 14:1.

SKYHAWKS
BASKETBALL - Ages 7 to 14
Skyhawks basketball breaks down this exhilarating sport into fundamental
skills that all athletes, no matter their skill level, need to succeed.
Coaches will lead the athletes through game-speed drills and exercises
with a focus on ball handling, passing, shooting, defense, and rebounding.
Combining all of these skills to develop a refined player is the
goal of every Skyhawks basketball program. Athletes will put their
skills to the test in an end-of-the-week tournament! All participants
receive a basketball, t-shirt and merit award. The participant-to-coach
ratio is approximately 10:1.

MINI
HAWK SOCCER, BASEBALL & BASKETBALL - Ages 4 to 7
Mini-Hawk programs (ages 4 to 7 years old) allow young children
to explore soccer, baseball, and basketball in a day-program setting.
There is no pressure -- just lots of fun while these young athletes
participate in all three sports through unique Skyhawks games. Our
Mini-Hawk coaching staff is trained to meet the specific needs of
young children and is committed to helping them start off on the
right foot as they venture into athletics. All participants receive
a mini Skyhawks ball, t-shirt and merit award. The participant-to-coach
ratio is approximately 8:1.

VOLLEYBALL - Ages 10 to 14
Skyhawks Volleyball A real hit in athletic development!.
Skyhawks Volleyball takes the fun and excitement of a great team
sport and delivers it in an appealing and engaging way. All the
aspects of the game are developed in a series of drills and exercises
focusing on passing, setting, hitting, and serving. This co-ed program
helps each athlete develop the fundamental skills of the game through
game-speed drills and scrimmages aimed at developing the whole player.
All participants receive a volleyball, t-shirt and merit award.
The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1.

TENNIS CAMP
This camp is all about learning to play tennis in a fun and positive
environment. Students will learn stroke production, tennis etiquette,
lines and spaces of a tennis court, scoring, and rules. They will
participate in cooperative and competitive drills and learn how
to play tennis! Prizes will be given out at the end of camp.

About Play-Well TEKhnologies
The goals of play-Well TEKnologies
are to develop and enhance your child’s problem solving
and critical thinking skills; expose them to concepts and
vocabulary of engineering, architecture and physics; provide
an opportunity for creativity and testing of ideas with the
LEGO building system under the supervision of engineering
professionals; and have fun a great time with a terrific building
system.
Your instructor, Linda Weiss,
has a degree in both chemical and electrical engineering,
as well as substantial experience in technical course development
and instruction. She is supervised by Timothy Bowen, program
creator, geologist, and engineer for over 20 years. |
Join us for this exciting camp. LEGO products will be used to teach
engineering to kids. Design and build motorized machines, catapults,
pyramids, demolition derby cars, truss and suspension bridges, buildings,
and other constructions (projects will vary). Explore concepts in
physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture
while playing with your favorite creations. This is a hands-on and
minds-on class suitable for LEGO Technic novices to maniacs. This

- Ages 7 to 9
Create a wrestling robot, then re-engineer it to be a battlebot
and take on all challengers1 Build a walking bug and bring it to
life1 Design and build all sorts of motorized creations. Familiarity

Fundamentals camp. This class is not affiliated with the LEGO group.

Robot
Challenge - ages 9 - 12
Design and build a robot to battle in the arena. Modify your bot
and team with others to form a machine armada to capture the enemy
base in a mechanized game of capture the flag! Familiarity with
LEGOR Technic is desirable and can be obtained by attending Engineering
FUNdamentals camp. This class is not affiliated with the LEGO group.

LEGO Green Engineering - ages 8 - 11
This is a hands-on, minds-on camp using LEGOR products to explore
the possibilities of machines powered by alternative energy sources.
Race solar cars. Build a wind-powered electrical generation facility.
Operate a fuel cell. Enter the human powered vehicle competition.
Invent a machine powered by stored elastic strain energy. Design
a fan-driven car. Construct a recycling plant. Projects may vary.
Instruction will be provided by staff, but familiarity with LEGO
Technic is desirable. This class is not affiliated with the LEGO
group.

pOI WORksHOp - Ages:
10-17
Poi
is an adapted Maori art that has become very popular all throughout
America, Europe, and the rest of the world. Basically the art of
spinning leashed weighted ends around ones body, it is a both a
physical and mental challenge. In this class the students will work
their way from more basic moves, to enhancing their motor skills,
and then to being able to perform for family and friends. Our instructor,
13 year old Kaden Hurst, is an accomplished poi spinner who loves
sharing his skills with others. He recently taught a group of younger
students and led them in the Auburn Festival of Light Parade. The
poi spinning workshops will include a set of practice poi for participants
to take home. This class partially funded through a generous grant
from Grants Advisory Board for Youth (GABY), a program of the Placer
Community Foundation.

Children with special needs learn fun new ways to move that enhance
balance, functionality and
coordination. We use a revolutionary approach to retrain the brain
to help children move more optimally.
This workshop is ideal for children with mobility outside of a wheelchair
with conditions such as: Cerebral
Palsy, Autism, mild brain damage, Down Syndrome and other unidentified
neurological conditions. One two
hour workshop with two 45 minute follow-up classes. The learning
approach practiced is based on the world
renowned method popularized by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, teaching movement
at the source of learning,
our brains. Movement Therapist Jackie Mason continues to advance
the ideas of Dr. Feldenkrais to bring
learning to new levels of effectiveness.

Let’s go on a safari and discover the culture and natural
world of Africa. Children will explore and use a variety of materials
to create tribal arts and fun animal collages and masks.
July 22nd--24th Mudbugs Camp
What could be more fun than playing with wet, messy clay? Creativity
and imagination flourish as children explore the different ways
to manipulate clay. All materials and gazing included. Finished
pieces will be available 2 weeks after class ends.
July 29th – 31st Volcanoes and Dinosaurs
We’ll take a pre-historic journey from volcanic eruptions
to the ice age, from dinosaurs to cave people. We’ll create
a volcano, dig for fossils and create other fun pre-historic inspired
art!

What’s a fairy house with out a fairy garden? Welcome the
fairies with a beautiful miniature dish garden and a little fairy
house for them to live in. We will build fairy houses, fairy furniture
and miniature garden elements such as, birdbaths, arbors, wind chimes,
pathways etc…We will then plant herbs and flowers to attract
the fairies. Students will be using hot glue guns in this class.
June 23rd – 26th Ceramics
The children will learn basic hand building techniques: Slab-Pinch-Coil.
We will do a variety of projects from simple pottery to whimsical
sculpture, all of which will be glazed and fired. We will work with
a variety of clays and decorative technique. Kids will have a lot
of freedom to create in this class.
July 7th – 10th Trading Card Design
Inspired by the Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon, craze, students will design
and print their very own trading/game cards. Kids' imaginations
will run wild while they draw their own creatures, warriors, villains
and heroes with invented powers to be summoned and points to be
won. By session end, each student will have created, printed and
laminated a dueling or trading deck of 6 or more cards to share
with friends and family
July 14th –17th Cars, Bots and Boards
In this radical class we will turn ordinary toy cars into art
cars, create skateboard stickers, and use an array of recycled materials
to make robot sculptures.
July 21st – 24th Razzle, Dazzle Design
Glamour is the focus of this fun class where art and fashion meet.
Explore the art of high fashion and design. We will create wearable
art and alter fashion into art!!
July 28th – 31st People, Portraits and Art
What does a portrait tell us about a person? Learn how to draw
people by looking at the history of portraits and the artists that
created them. Use clues about their lives and character to create
the world in which they live. Students will draw, paint and sculpt
as they discover the importance of the portrait throughout history.

Are you a writer? Have you ever wanted to see your words put to
action on the stage? In this camp, students will learn the basics
of writing an interesting, energetic scene for the stage (including
dialogue, action, plot tension, and staging notes). They will cooperatively
write 2-3 dramatic scenes, given style/character/plot jumping-off
points. The students will then perform these scenes at the end of
the week for family and friends.

Come and join with friends to sing some beautiful, fun and exciting

We will learn and perform a number of songs from all different genres:
Broadway, Disney, folk/pop and traditional. We will perform our
songs at the end of the camp for friends and family. There is nothing
like joining your voice to a choir of excellent singers!

This is our most popular performing arts camp, and with good reason.
The campers will learn stage skill development including projection

The Nutcracker has been a community tradition for the past seven
years with over 144 children in our community participating. We
have had sold out performances and it has been said we are one of
the finest children’s shows in the area. We cast everyone
that comes to audition and this has only added to the flavor of

work to build a solid foundation for floor exercises, turns, jumps
and combinations that incorporate all aspects of classical ballet.
Introduction to the proper terminology and definitions will also
be presented.

steps using the basic tap movements as fundamentals. Introduction

Beginning Jazz / Tap:
Fundamentals of beginning jazz with emphasis on flexibility
, coordination, center routines and incorporating ballet basics.
Beginning Tap will introduce basic steps along with center and across-the-floor
routines. A great class for the beginning dancer. A little jazz,
a little Tap and a lot of fun.
*Intermediate Jazz:
This class is for the dancer who has had prior experience.
They will continue to focus on the fundamentals of Jazz including
proper alignment, strength and more advanced routines. This class

The Briones training system consists of a well rounded lesson
structure in which young people become competent riders as well
as care for and understand horses in fun, challenge sessions. This
is often a young person’s first chance to take charge, practice
their leadership skills, and build self esteem. In the first 4 one-hour
sessions students learn how our equine companions think, how to
approach, lead basic grooming, parts of the horse and equipment,
and be able to steer the horse at the walk and trot in 3 positions.
