LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION

2018 will bring new changes to the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Program. This class is designed for current Lifeguards who need to update their certification for 2018 (recertification must be done every two years).

Masters swimming

Masters swimming is for adults to receive instruction on their strokes, get a coached workout and start the day swimming. Information on Open Water Swims around Northern California will be available. This is a great workout for individuals participating in Triathlon events. Masters meets three mornings a week.

MERMAIDS AND ROBALOS PRE-SEASON MEETINGS

All swimmers and families are urged to attend the Mermaids Back in Sync and Robalos Back to Swim Night. These are great opportunities to come together, hear about the upcoming season, meet the coaches, order team wear, meet old friends and make new ones. Registration for the teams is also available during the first hour.

Robalos Swim Clinics

These clinics are designed for swimmers who want to improve the strokes and techniques of the four basic strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Individual attention is given by head coach and assistants. Swimmers must have basic knowledge of the strokes but are not limited to swim team members.

Robalos Swimming Team

Robalos Swimming is for boys and girls ages 5 to 18. Swimmers must be able to swim unaided one length of the pool performing three of the four competitive strokes. Swimmers practice Monday through Thursday. Additional fun family/swimmer activities will be scheduled. Meets are held Saturday morning beginning in June. Swim team try-outs are on Saturday April 21 at 4pm or Thursday 4/26 at 6:30pm at Sierra Pool.

 

For swimmers unable to meet the swimming requirements we have a Junior Robalos program. A Junior Robalo is a swimmer, 8 years or younger. In order to qualify for Junior Robalos the swimmer must complete one length of the pool unassisted. Swimmers must be registered for the team and practice with the Junior Robalos. Practice consists of 40 minutes to an hour of workout that combines small group instruction followed by lap swim in the main pool. In meets Junior Robalos will only swim events in which they have a legal stroke as determined by a head coach.

 

Back to Swim Night is an evening to come together, hear about the upcoming season, meet the coaches, order team wear, pay $125 parent volunteer check, meet old friends and make new ones. All families and swimmers are expected to attend Friday, April 27 at 5:30pm, Canyon View Community Center. Swimmers who do not have parent participation check in will not be allowed in the pool 5/4.

Passes may be purchased at the customer service office and pass holders will be admitted to either pool facility during scheduled Public Swim times.

Stroke and Turn

This is a great way to get a head start on summer recreational swimming. Come, get wet, see old friends, make new friends, and improve strokes, starts and turns. Swimmers will refine the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. This program is for swimmers who are capable of swimming these strokes, who want to begin their conditioning, refine their strokes and become more efficient.

LIFEGUARD Training with title 22 first aid

This course will certify students in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. In addition to first aid and CPR skills, class covers water rescues, professionalism, prevention, and many other topics to prepare participants for a job as a lifeguard. Also covered is Title 22, required by the State of California for all lifeguards. Hurry, this is a popular class and fills up quickly.

Come out and get ready for the synchronized swimming season. This class is for conditioning as well as an opportunity to learn and practice basic figures. Junior Mermaids

Junior Mermaids is the training ground for future Mermaids. Swimmers will learn the basics of synchronized swimming without the pressure of competitive meets. This tenregister now-week program will prepare the swimmers for the end of season water show and give them a head start on the next competitive season. All swimmers must be able to safely swim the width of the ARD pool without the aid of flotation devices, lane lines, or stopping on the wall. Swimmers must attend one of our free beginner clinics in March or April to pass a basic swim assessment. Swimmers can also contact the head coach (theauburnmermaids@gmail.com) to arrange another time for a swim assessment if necessary.

Mermaid Synchronized Swimming Team

The Mermaids synchronized swim team has a long tradition here in the foothills. Synchronized swimming combines the grace of dancers, the coordination and flexibility of gymnasts, the spirit of cheerleading, and the strength of water polo players into one beautiful and powerful sport. Practices are held in the evenings Monday through Thursday and some weekends. Meets are held Wednesday evenings beginning in June and the league finals will be held in mid-July. New swimmers of all ages (7-18) are encouraged to join. Swimmers must attend one of our pre-season Free Beginner Clinics or contact the coach to arrange a different time for a swim assessment (theauburnmermaids@gmail.com).

 

All swimmers and a parent are urged to attend Back in Sync on April 25 and provide a refundable, parent participation check made out to Mermaids in the amount of $125. (Swimmers will not be allowed in the pool without a check).
